Climbing a tree to some secret hideout was the kind of play a lot of us probably engaged in during our childhoods. Maybe you even once thought you’d like to live in a treehouse. It’s easy to forget such dreams in the daily grind of city life, but would you believe that right here in our figurative backyard of Yokohama, there is actually a cafe that will titillate that childhood heart of yours?
From Mitsuzawa-Shimocho Station, which is one stop from Yokohama on the Blue Line, you walk about ten minutes through a residential area. Look up and a tree house like something from a child’s picture book comes into view. Climb the stairs and from the wooden deck there is an expansive view of central Yokohama. The interior of the treehouse is a soothing space constructed primarily of wood. From the cafe’s light lunch menu, whose selection changes daily, we chose a bagel sandwich (¥800), a homemade scone (¥300) and soft drinks (¥500~¥650) before heading outside. The inside seating is lovely, but on a clear day, we recommend those seats with the view.
Pleasant breezes blow at that height and the lush green around you makes you forget for a while that you are in the city. Don’t you need a little time to recharge in a space like this?
