June is “Sustainability Month”
We at IKEA signed an agreement with Yokohama City in September 2015, to practice stewardship of the environment and create a more sustainable society. Another principal we agreed on was the promotion of locally-produced food. Consumption of locally-produced food has a positive effect on the environment by reducing the distance from farm to market, thereby reducing carbon dioxide. In honor of Sustainability Month, this June we will have a local farmers’ market every Sunday at IKEA Kohoku’s entrance (10:00-13:00), where guests will be able to purchase freshly harvested vegetables from Tsuzuki-ku. Lead a more sustainable life by supporting our local vegetable growers!
Also during Sustainability Month, Save the Children and UNHCR, both strong partners in bringing substantial changes to children’s lives, will join us at IKEA Kohoku. Each organization will set up a booth at our entrance for sharing the real-life stories of children living in impoverished communities. Those interested in charitable giving may also enroll in long-term support programs. Please visit us!
