The cold winter months ahead call for cozy comfort foods, and cheese fondue is definitely up there on the list. At Cheese Cafe 2, you’ll find everything from pizza to pasta and of course, fondue (R ¥980, L ¥1280), which comes with focaccia sticks to dip. It’s made with 5 different cheeses: red cheddar, mozzarella, steppen, Emmental and Gruyère. We couldn’t resist ordering a side of crispy Mushroom Fritters (¥580) to douse in our bubbling pot of thick, creamy cheese.
Next came the Sweet Potato and Four Cheese Pizza (¥1580) which instantly filled the air with the sharp scent of cheese and the aroma of sweet potatoes and maple syrup, which was drizzled all over the pizza. You can enjoy a variety of flavors, as well as the complementary contrast of savory and sweet in just one dish. The Parmesan Pasta (or risotto, both ¥1680) is highly-recommended. The staff will come over to the table and serve fresh pasta straight from a gigantic wheel of parmesan cheese. Slathered in a creamy sauce of five different cheeses and seasoned with black pepper, you can’t go wrong with this plate. We finished off with Hoji-cha (tea) Pudding (¥300) which was served in form of a crème brûlée. The tea flavor added a pleasant bitterness to the pudding. It was light and easy to eat after a hearty meal.
Since all the dishes at Cheese Cafe 2 are served hot and fresh, everything from flavor, texture and aroma are enhanced. Nothing feels too heavy. The menu is similar to its predecessor Cheese Cafe Yokohama, but the atmosphere at Cheese Cafe 2 is more relaxed and intimate, making it ideal for dates or dinner out with friends.
